Zane: 2 +8Months

Zane,

We’ve been so busy in our house that I seemed to have skipped way more months on the letter writing than I normally do! So much seems to have happened that this might end up being a long one.

You are officially in school. I was super nervous about how you would take going to preschool but you are in love with it! Your teacher said that you have adjusted so well and just come right in and starting playing. I shouldn’t be surprised one bit because you are such a social bug and love being around people.

You have had lots of firsts in the past couple of months. You went to your first baseball game and first Colts game. You still are talking about the Colts game and anytime you see the Colts logo on something you yell “Colts game!” You call your Colts jersey “Colts game shirt” and wonder how Truman got a Colts game scarf without going to the game. You also saw your first movie in a theater, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. You payed attention until the last five minutes when you tried to climb head first down to the next level! You picked your first raspberries and probably ate a whole quart in the time we were there. You had your first bee sting, or attack I should say, and first real out sickness. We got through all of that with some serious cuddle time.

You continue to just love on your GaGas and Papas. It cracks us up to see how you act around them compared to how you act around us! One day you’ll have kids and it will be that way too! If we drive towards GaGa and Papa Crevonis’ house you yell that you want to go there. If we see a truck that looks like your Papa Laurent’s you start yelling “Papa’s truck!” I think they love all the attention too!

You still love to test the waters with just about everything that you do. You have no fear! On your preschool information they asked us to describe your personality. I laughed as I did this and saw the word “fearful.” I wrote next to it “fearless” and described that you don’t always think before you jump of high things, climb or try to pet bees. It scares me to death and I constantly think that we’re one step away from the emergency room. But it’s part of your personality so I let you go with it, within limits, and cringe at how daring you are.

Your hair turned super blonde this summer. The photo doesn't do it justice. It now is turning darker with an auburn color to it. I'm so curious as to what it will look as you get older! It's cute to see it change with the amount of time you have in the sun.

Praying before dinner has become a must. Sometimes Daddy and I forget and you now say “Are we going to pray?” Sometimes you’ll pray and you whisper it to yourself and yell AMEN! Other times you ask either Daddy or I to say the prayer and then yell AMEN at the end. Either way, it’s cool to see how you’ve picked up on our traditions in our home and we hope that you grow to love God. We pray that everyday and want you to own your own faith and be challenged by it. It’s a hard thing to pray for but we truly believe it’s not always the easy road.

The way that you remember things amazes us. About three weeks ago you threw a football at me when I wasn’t looking which sent just-made-hot tea all over my lap and my computer keyboard. I jumped up yelling because the tea was burning my legs and screaming for help because the keyboard was dripping. We had to replace the keyboard and my legs recovered but you still remember it. You walk by the desk and say I knocked the tea down and got in trouble. You did sit in a long time out but I think the way I was screaming from the hot tea in my lap stuck with you. You tell us stories about things we did at the lake this summer and we laugh that you can remember it. We hear all kinds of stories from things you do at school but we never have a clue whether or not it’s accurate so we just go with it.

Trucks and trains are still your favorite. A neighbor brought over a bucket of old match box cars and trucks and you have been in heaven with those. You really like Thomas but we just have to be honest that we can’t stand the movies and shows! Even the books are pretty bad. The trains just are nasty to each other the whole time. So you only get to watch it every now and then and when we read the books we skip over the mean train talk. We don’t need you teasing kids at school with some of the things those trains say!

I love that you aren’t into watching TV. Sure you’ll watch it when you’re tired or feeling sick but you’re usually just too busy to sit and watch. You still love your PBS shows and their new show Dinosaur Train is your favorite. It’s funny when you don’t know who normal TV characters are but I like to think that you’re just using your imagination as you play so who cares.

Drums and music continue to be your favorite thing to do. You rock out to the Tyler Bender Band and one of your babysitters even took you to their all ages concert. You had your first “concert” there and got up on stage in front of bunch of the kids and played the drums. It was so fun to see the video of it. At Merge you’re front and center and play the “air” drums as you watch Brian play. We absolutely love that you are into music and are trying to foster the drum playing as much as you want to. I do sometimes wish you picked a quieter instrument, especially in the mornings, but also wouldn’t change how much fun you have with it.

We are loving seeing you grow out of the toddler stage into a big boy. You still will cuddle with me and give BIG hugs and kisses, along with a kiss we made up called the dinosaur kiss. You still tell us you love us and even seem to know when we need extra hugs and to be told “It’s okay Momma.” Basically, we love the way you love us. It’s uniquely you and we’re so in love with that.

Love,

Your Momma and Daddy

Love it!!

Things we have in common:

I have lost a keyboard (plus a lap top) due to tea spill. (Though I can't blame my child.)

I hate Thomas for it's grumpy attitudes too!

I have no idea what my son's hair will look like too!

Many more, but had to bring those up. : )
