Laura - Such Great Heights 2010 Senior

Laura is super involved and such an active young woman! When I got to know her better from some questions she answered I thought how does she do it?!!! I'm so impressed. Not only does she manage to stay super involved, she also is as sweet as can be. I truly had so much fun with her.

Laura also has just about the most adorable smile. I think you'll agree. Meet Laura!

What are your favorite activities?

I've really found my niche in Student Government because I like to be able to take leadership roles in events. But in terms of activities, I love learning new songs on guitar or just fiddling around with it. I was the worship leader for our group in Kenya this summer so I got to play a lot. I love going downtown with my friends. We like to go watch ComedySportz Indianapolis matches on Massachusetts Avenue, go to the Old Spaghetti Factory and just explore! Otherwise, I can be a fairly relaxed kind of person. As much as I love excitement and activity, I can just as easily curl up and watch a good movie!

Check out all that Laura is involved with!!!

What activities are you involved with at school or outside of school?
I'm a four-year elected Senator and I was elected the Vice-Student Body President. I also am a three year member of the CHS ComedySportz team and am Co-Captain of the team this year.  I am a member of the Rising Stars Drama Club and I've been cast several shows at Carmel like The Secret Garden, and Shakespeare on Love. I just finished directing my own one-act play at Carmel this fall called "Take My Advice." I was chosen to direct at the end of my Junior year, and I got to chose a script, hold auditions, direct and produce the show. It was so fun.

I've been in mock trial team for the past two years, as well. I'm also really active in Student Venture ministries. I have played worship on guitar for this club on and off for the last few years. Which brings me to the fact that I play guitar (I'm not very good!) and LOVE to sing! My Christian faith is really important to me. This past summer I spent about a month living in Kenya, Africa doing mission work in high schools and orphanages.

How awesome is that? I told you Laura was super cool.

I really do love that smile Laura!

What do you do on a typical night out with friends?
I have a very close knit group of girl friends that I have been with since freshman year. We go out on girls nights once a month and dress up for a nice dinner and then lounge at one of our houses afterward. I am pretty spontaneous, so if a fun activity comes up with friends or church, I am there!

What type of music/band makes you get up and dance?
I love acoustic worship music like Shawn McDonald and Chris Tomlin. But as far as getting up and dancing? I LOVE TENTH AVENUE NORTH! They are by far my favorite band. In terms of mainstream music, I like songs from musicals like Dream Girls and Hairspray. I also like acoustic stuff by Jack Johnson and John Mayer.

What movie makes you happy?
Serendipity

What movie makes you cry?
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Just adorable.

What TV show are you addicted to? It's okay to admit it!

Degrassi! Its a guilty-pleasure, but I love the fact that every POSSIBLE teenage faux pas is confronted in one TV show! It is really addicting! I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Lost. I didn't keep up with it last season, but I usually end up renting the season and watching the whole thing in a span of like, a month!

Do you have a book you could read over and over?
The Giver

Laura had me cracking up here!

What food does your family cook that you will miss when you go to college?
My mom makes the best French Toast Casserole EVER! We have it for Christmas morning and other holidays. It is SO great.

What are your hopes/plans for the future?

I am currently in the chaotic stage where I am applying to college! I am applying to Georgetown, Notre Dame, Miami of Ohio and Purdue University. I would LOVE to go to Georgetown's McDonough School of Business, its really competitive, though. Notre Dame is also one of my dream schools. I want to study business and become an entrepreneur. I'm not sure what kind of business I would want to go into, but I love the idea of having my own coffeehouse.

The clouds came quick and it started to get dark so we had some fun with the light!

What do you want people to remember about you when they look back on your senior year?
I want them to remember me as a person who left a legacy. I want to stand out as a bold Christian, a funny personality, an intellectual conversationalist and a loving friend.

Laura, you truly are so unique. I can't wait to hear what school you got into and where you'll be headed next year!

Oooh - love the guitar images! And is that a little off-camera flash action? ;) I need to try that at some point. It's been forever since I practiced on a one-on-one session!
